In the 70's, Three Dog Night had a great song that came into fruition for me this week. No! Not "Mama told me not to Come", though that too, was a great song. The song was "One is the Loneliest Number". I was asked to do a funeral, and though my heart wasn't sure if now was the right time, I remembered something my dad told me several years ago. A friend of mine had died in a tragic accident and the family asked me to lead the funeral service. I sat down with my father a day before the service and told him that I wasn't sure if I could do it. His response to me still lingers in my mind. "If not you, who? Aren't these moments God will use you the most?" Ah, who asked you Hoots!!!! That's right, I did.
Anyway, this week I accepted the invitation to lead a funeral service and there was only one person who attended. Thus, the song began to play in my head. But wait, loneliness isn't just experienced by those who are all alone. Many find themselves in the midst of a crowd and still feel by themselves. This is perhaps due to circumstances or decisions you have made, you feel like no one understands or cares what is happening to you. That is wrong! You are never alone.
Matthew 28:20 "I am with you always, even to the end of the age." God is with you. Whatever dark corridor you are walking down today, whether created by your own doing or by others, you are not alone. God cares about every moment of every day. He walks with you and even sometimes carries you. His grace is sufficient!
Trust in Him always. I must go now "The radio is blasting, someones knocking at the door...."
