Sonya and I purchased a car a few months ago. As a promotional option satellite radio is free for several months. I love 70's on 7!!!! However, due to the poor music taste of the rest of my family, they verbally insult me each time I press the preset button to this awesome station. Thus, I only listen to it when driving alone. Rodney Dangerfield and I are in a select group of disrespected men, being thwarted by the so called sophisticated musical desires of others. While driving the other day I heard the 1979 classic by Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive".
Though the song is about a person who has been left by another, I can't help but find strength in the statement "I will survive!" Truth is all of us go through difficult and trying times. Life has a way of catching us off guard and then punching us in the stomach with a dose of real pain. What are you to do? Give up? No! Escape? No! Learn and grow. Here are a few lessons I have learned through hardships, as I have traveled through some difficult seasons of life:
How to go through what you are going through.
Remember, God can help you grow, especially when you are hurting. How does He do this?
He teaches you to trust Him.
He is giving you a ministry to others.
He is drawing you closer to Him and other people.
I Peter 1:6,7 “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”
Whatever you are going through, you will survive. Allow God to work in and through you for His glory. So glad when I turned on 70's on 7 it was Gloria Gaynor and not Rick Dees doing "Disco Duck"!
