Many years as a homeowner has taught me some valuable lessons, such as knowing when to call in the professionals when I’m in over my head. Here’s an example.
Over the years when there would be a plumbing problem, I would grab my hammer, adjustable wrench, wire pliers (Terry Schafer once told me to keep my pliers with me always, they may save my life one day) and duct tape. Then I would begin the challenge of fixing the problem whether the sink, faucet or shower. Here is where it gets tricky. More often than not, okay, okay, every time, I created a bigger problem than what was originally there. It was at this time I would call my plumber who would come and take care of the disasters. Upon one of his visits to our house, he asked if he could speak to me. Thinking he was going to thank me for the pre-work I had done which undoubtedly made his job easier, I said, “Sure!” His speech was clear with a slow southern draw. “Danny, if you don’t mind me sayin’ when something goes wrong call me first. You just make a mess and it costs you more money.” Ouch, if I was Donald Trump I would have offered the words “You’re Fired”, the truth is he was right.
Do you ever find yourself trying hard to fix problems and situations in your life, only to throw them at God once you’ve made a huge mess of things? Without a doubt when you try to work out the struggles on your own, it always costs you so much more than you ever expected. What to do? Take it to the Lord immediately! Don’t go fumbling around in the dark when God will bring His light to your situation. Seek His help in all things and He will care for you.
Psalm 119: 153 “Look upon my suffering and deliver me”
1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Never forget, God loves you and wants the very best for you. Wait, is that the faucet dripping? Better call Tom, wonder if he’s looking for an apprentice?
