Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
When I was twenty years old, my home church had summer youth camp at Whitewater State Park in Indiana and I was invited to attend as a counselor. I lead in daily Bible study and saw several give their lives to Christ. The experience of attending this great event has left quite an imprint on my soul. On the last night, our camp pastor, Rick Ousley, spoke about being willing to leave what was familiar and go out to impact the world for Christ. He looked directly at me and asked the question, “Are you really going to stay where you are comfortable, or are you willing to pick up everything and go do what God wants you to do?”
That night, in 1980, I surrendered my life to the Lord. Opening my heart to do and to go wherever God would send me. Two weeks later, I preached for the first time in my home church. It was a Wednesday night and the auditorium was packed. It was a terrible sermon, without real form or depth. However, one person walked to the front of the church, took our pastor by the hand and asked to receive Christ as their savior. It was humbling and amazing to see the power of God at work. From that time on I have never looked back, but have tried to walk with God and fulfill the calling He has placed on my life.
You may never be asked to preach, but God has a plan for you. A calling that sets you apart to live a life following God. He has much for you to do.
Matthew 16:24, 25 “Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.”
Q4U: God is calling. Are you willing to follow His plans for your life?
