Ephesians 1:4, 5 “For he chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will.”
During the time of Jesus’ ministry on earth, the local religious leaders were growing frustrated with His growing popularity. They conspired together and came up with a plan to make Jesus look bad in the eyes of the people. They asked him what commandment did he believe was the most important. Jesus, being the greatest teacher of all time, turned their trap around and described the two simple tasks for all believers. He told them to love God with all of their hearts and then to love people.
Matthew 22:36-39 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
As a church, our directive has not changed since the first century. Reaching out to love God and love people makes followers of Christ more like Him than anything else. No matter what may be happening in your life, touching others with the love of God makes your life full and complete.
This week I received an email from someone telling me how the church has loved and accepted them. They went on to explain the importance of this love in strengthening their faith. Everyone who walks through the doors of HPC is important to God and to the church. Congratulations on sharing the love of Christ with others. May we never stop loving God and loving people!
Philippians 1:9 “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight.”
Q4U: God is calling. He wants to know if you are following His commands about love. How will you reply?
