Hebrews 2:10 “In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering.”
Many years ago I had the privilege to meet Jerry Lucas. His grandfather was a member of the church where I was serving in Middletown, Ohio. Being a former basketball player and a forever fan of the sport, it was an awesome privilege to spend some time talking to Mr. Lucas. After his grandfather passed away, he spoke at the funeral service with great love and even greater insight. His words were very compelling and have left a lasting imprint on my heart. He began telling the crowd of family and friends about the many accomplishments he had attained as a great athlete. His demeanor was not arrogant or egotistical, but instead he spoke with humility and modesty even though he was a 6’10” giant of a man. He said, “I was a state basketball champion and all-American in high school. I played at Ohio State where we won the National Championship and also played in the NBA for many years, where I was an all-star.” He paused, then boldly said, “All of these things pale in comparison to simply being a part of the family of God.”
Belonging to this special group of people is offered to every man, woman, boy and girl. God opens up His heart to everyone and invites you to become a part of His family. No one is excluded.
Rick Warren stated in The Purpose Driven Life, “Being included in God’s family is the highest honor and the greatest privilege you will ever receive. Nothing else comes close. Whenever you feel unimportant, unloved, or insecure, remember to Whom you belong.”
Hebrews 2:11 “Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.”
Q4U: God is calling. He wants you to be a part of His family. Are you?
